Piping the cloud

kubit was asking their kubit-USA office in order to have the piping expert John Bunn joining me at the kubit booth during SPAR-EU 2010 in Amsterdam last week. John has more than 10 years experience in the piping industry and is the main consultant helping kubit to realize its PointCloud piping tool.
So for the first European SPAR conference, we were showcasing this amazing tool to convert laser scan data directly into intelligent pipes. This will be true not only for AutoCADs Plant 3D but also within Plant 4D, Cadworx, AutoPlant or others.
People were quite amazed about these new features and so the FARO user meeting was a great success as well! Besides a wide selections of partners, kubit was showing "Piping the point cloud" directly in AutoCAD Plant 3D. So watch out for the official launch of the new PointCloud version coming soon!

kubit-France

A quick trip earlier this week brought me together with Laurent Metzger, our partner in France. Laurent and I spoke about the ongoing business in France and discussed possible marketing strategies for kubit products in France. It turned out that there is a lot of potential interest but the customers are difficult to address. One strategy which is working quite well is the co-operation with FARO-France. So maybe Laurent will have more trips to train customers like JetAlu in Marocco (www.jetalu.com), who recently purchased a new FARO Photon scanner. So overall, we are very positive for 2011 but there is always some work to do!

Standards for digitization of archaeological heritage

After having not been on the road for a few weeks, I was travelling to Warsaw early this week. Kubit-Poland was attending the Conference on “Standards for digitization of archaeological heritage” (http://www.cyfrowaprzeszlosc.uksw.edu.pl/en). Besides a small stand in the lobby, Ewa was giving a nice presentation about the kubit software solutions. The audience of more than 100 people (professors and students) was quite impressed and so the stand was hardly occupied during the breaks. Unlikely the breaks have been quite a few and unpleasantly short. So for everybody who wants to know more about kubit-Poland and offered solutions may check pl.kubit-software.com.
Parallel to the conference I was able to speak with our partners in Poland about ongoing projects, current clients and the upcoming year 2011. And this upcoming year, will push the kubit business in Poland quite a lot. I am sure that we have met some of the new customers during that conference in Warsaw this week already!

Good bye Tokyo!

This was again a great time in Tokyo. Our partner Mirukuru (www.mirukuru.jp.co) gave me just a great time! But besides getting gripped by this great city, I also had interesting meetings here in Japan: The highlight of course was the kubit seminar I hosted on Tuesday. Some 15 people from different industries showed up and were listening to my explanation about TachyCAD, PhoToPlan 3D and PointCloud Pro. It was my pleasure to speak with Mr. Kaneko from Topcon (www.topcon.co.jp), Mr. Ohhashi from Nikon-Trimble (www.nikon-trimble.net) and Mr. Ikeda from Obayashi (www.obayashi.co.jp) who is already a kubit customer.
Today Yuki Fuhura and I went to see Mr. Sasaki and his team from Riegl-Japan as well as Mr. Tabuchi, Regional Sales Manager of FARO-Japan. Both companies agreed to heavily intense our already good relationship in the near future.
Tomorrow morning I am flying back home to see my lovely family again and to get ready for InterGEO 2010 (www.intergeo.de) ...

Surveying the Forbidden City

Isn't that great? Surveying in the Forbidden City in Beijing, China is one of my most outstanding jobs since I am travelling around the world. Surveying this temple was part of the presentation we gave to the responsible persons at the Forbidden City. Besides evaluating laser scanning data using kubits' PointCloud, the Forbidden City is keen to work with PhoToPlan, PhoToPlan 3D and TachyCAD as well. kubit software will help them to document and preserve their highly valuable buildings and temples.
I was in China to see the kubit partner Onrol (www.onrol.com) again. I discussed with Teng Liu about further strategies in marketing and technology. Both of us see a highly increased need for as-built documentation thus for kubit software. So we are all looking pleasantly forward into the upcoming months and years.

kubit-Netherlands

Visiting our partners from the Netherlands again brought some nice days in Amsterdam and surroundings. But it was not all about sightseeing but more a quite busy time to discuss further strategies with Hans Cornelisse and his team.
At the end, we came up with a few points how we can improve our partnership in the near future. This will help to serve our clients in the Netherlands as good as possible.

kubit-FARO-Autodesk road show Part 2

Part 2 of the kubit-FARO-Autodesk road show has just finished. I am on my way back home from Munich, the last location of the road show. It was a great pleasure to welcome a nice crowd in Hanau, Erlangen and Munich. The attendees got a first inside view in the laserscanning technology and kubit's PointCloud in AutoCAD. At the end, we were counting some good prospects and looking forward to serve their needs on the laserscanning technology.

kubit-FARO-Autodesk Roadshow Part1

As announced earlier on my Blog, kubit took part in the kubit-FARO-Autodesk road show last week. Part 1 of this road show took me to Hamburg, Bremen and Moers. Besides kubit and FARO, the ACAD Systemhaus Bremen (http://www.acad-systemhaus.de/) and CAD4Build Brilon (http://www.cad4build-nrw.de/) were showcasing the AutoCAD Architecture. The plant part was taken over from Seitz Ingenieur GmbH (http://www.seitz-ingenieure.de/) as well as Unitec (http://www.unitec.de/).

Within these 3 days, we were able to demonstrate the integrated workflow from as-build documentation using laser scanning technology, post-process these data in AutoCAD using kubits PointCloud software to finally add additional value using AutoCAD Architecture and Plant 3D functionality.

If you want to participate in the 2 part of the road show, please register at www.faro.com/roadshow. I am looking forward to meet you there.

EU-Gateway Korea 2010

The EU-Gateway mission for Construction & Architecture brought me to Seoul, Korea. 5 very interesting days made it possible to meet already existing partners like Dream T&S (www.dreamtns.com), the Riegl partner in Korea and to come in contact with possible new partners like Jaewoo Tech. Co., Ltd (www.jaewoo.com).

However it was quite difficult to meet potential partners during the 2-days Gateway exhibition due to the much diversified company profiles in that mission. Nevertheless I am very positive that we have spread out the knowledge about kubit in this fantastic country.

By the way, this sculpture on the table is completely made from ice!

Istanbul

Between the continents! Even though I haven't been on the other side of the Bosporus, I had a great time here in Istanbul. Together with our partner Ertan Ilter and his wife from Turkey, kubit (and me in person) was proud to be part of the InterGEO-East 2010 (http://www.intergeo-east.com/).

Unlikely the crowd on this event wasn't that much. But we still had quite nice visits from existing Turkish customers, friends and staff from all of the hardware manufactures on our stand. All of them were quite happy to see the new solution PhoToPlan 3D as well as our PointCloud 6 for AutoCAD 2011.

Besides the exhibition, it was great to see and understand how life and business comes together here in Istanbul. Ertan did a great job to guide me around through the city. So we ended up eating Köfte, had a nice drink called Boza and had a lot of Cay ... So good buy Istanbul and I'm looking forward to see you the next time!

Autodesk - FARO - kubit Roadshow

kubit is proud to announce the upcoming Autodesk-FARO-kubit road show in Germany next month. Besides an architectural focus, this road show is emphasizing on the new Autodesk Plant 3D software (http://www.autodesk.com)which will be released later this year! Autodesks Plant 3D is answering the industry driven needs to have a plant design software developed on an AutoCAD platform. Using FAROs laserscanner (http://www.faro.com) as well as kubits PointCloud, as built documentation can be done with limited effort and time. For everybody, who wants to attend this great road show can sign in at http://www.faro.com/content.aspx?ct=ge&content=news&item=3521&tab=1

In preparation to this event, it was my pleasure to meet with Oliver Bürkler from FARO as well as Klaus Dahlfeld and his team from Techdata and the different Autodesk partner last Monday in Munich.

Hi-Tech Metrology

A quick flight to Stuttgart brought me together with David Eldridge. David is working for Hi-Tech Metrology, an Australia based company which is concentrated on Metrology service as well as soft- and hardware. You can find more details about Hi-Tech metrology at www.hitechmetrology.com.au
We spoke about a possible partnership, especially when it comes to laserscanning and PointCloud. David emphasized the idea to provide interested clients with a trial dongle of PointCloud for a limited time period. Before that a presentation as well as training via webinar would be helpful.
I promised David to come back to our nice conversation soon. I am sure, there is great potential for all of us.

EU-Gateway Korea

kubit is part of the EU-Gateway program for the Construction & Building Technology (http://www.eu-gateway.eu/) in Korea from June 7th - 11th. The corresponding pre-departure in Brussels was my destination last Friday.

During the business mission in Korea I will have the possibility to meet with existing partners, customers and potential distributors. For that, the EU-Gateway team is organising private meetings as well as a 2 days exhibition where I can show and promote the kubit software solutions.

If you want to see me during the business mission you can do so in the COEX Intercontinental Hotel, Seoul, Korea on June 9th and 10th. If you are not able to be there, feel free to contact me directly or to read about the mission again soon.

GEO-10

GEO-10 is the yearly event for all surveyors in the UK. kubit (http://www.kubit-software.com/) and in person myself, together with its partner Latimer-CAD (www.theolt.com) shared the kubit-UK booth. It was my pleasure to be at this event once again and we expected a great audience to see our new developments. So it was great to announce and present the newest release of kubits' PointCloud as well as the new software PhoToPlan 3D.

Together with AutoCADs' new 2011 release, PointCloud is even more powerful when it comes to large 3D laser scanning datasets (up to 2 Billion points) within AutoCAD!

3D metric data from images in AutoCAD: Besides PointCloud, the visitors on the GEO-10 were also quite impressed of the new multiple image post-processing tool within PhoToPlan. PhoToPlan 3D delivers a new and effective way of working with images inside AutoCAD. It exploits the geometric properties of oriented images to allow precise 3D digitising.

So after all, the 2 days in Coventry worked out for kubit very well. And so I have to say "thank you very much" to Julie and Bill (http://www.bill-blake.co.uk/) who shared these 2 days with me!

Flammekuche & Rösti

The last week was scheduled for a short meeting with our partner in France, Laurent Metzger. Besides current topics like the next trade show (http://www.geometre-marseille2010.eu/) or the upcoming kubit software releases, it was my pleasure to honour Laurent with the kubit award as the best PhoToPlan seller in 2009!

The next day I was "just" crossing the border to see Hans Ritzmann, our partner in Switzerland. Hans is with kubit since 2000 and has a variety of clients in the field of Archaeology and Historical Preservation. Working half day for the "Basler Denkmalpflege" gives him the time and the connections to resell kubits TachyCAD and PhoToPlan in Switzerland. See more information at (http://ch.kubit-software.com/).

kubit-Russia

Yes, this is great stuff: kubit goes to Russia.
It was great to see my friend Leo after 15 years again. This not because of all the Vodka we had ... Leo is now in charge for the kubit business in Russia. Check out http://ru.kubit-software.com/ for more information!
kubit-Russia is alive! And with this mission we met companies like Geometer Center (www.geometer-center.ru), Jena Instruments (www.jena.ru) and Geopolygon (www.geoploygon.ru). We spoke about the kubit PointCloud software, customers and how to address them with updated marketing material, online demos and a master class training!
So at the end one thing is for sure: I am coming back to see the Russians again!!

SPAR - Success is Measured

At its 7th anniversary of the SPAR conference (www.sparllc.com), kubit was proud to be part of it for the 6th time in a row! In co-operation with Scott Diaz from kubit USA (www.kubit-usa.com), Jana Siebenbrodt, Matthias Koksch and myself were hosting the kubit booth at the exhibition area at Marriott Hotel & Convention Center, The Woodlands, Houston, TX, USA.

Despite all bad economy news from the last year, we had a great amount of people showing interest in our products during the conference. It was not always the software PointCloud they were looking at but also TachyCAD and PhoToPlan brought great awareness into the clients mind.
Highlight however was the "Closed Door" sessions kubit hosted with Autodesk. Together with Gonzalo Martinez from Autodesk (www.autodesk.com) we spoke about the interactivity between kubit PointCloud functionality and the highly anticipated next release of AutoCAD. I am very curious about the upcoming few month!
Besides that, kubit was invited by FARO (www.faro.com) to be part of their Faro user meeting were Dr. Bernd Becker (Director of Laserscanning) was emphasizing on the long and fruitfull relationship between both companies.

kubit-Polska

Our brand new partner office in Poland was my first destination in 2010. I had about 3 days to speak with my partner Mr. Jacek Krawiec und Ms. Ewa Gruszka about marketing as well as the Polish market itself. Taking the economical situation in account, the question is always: "How to promote the kubit software here?" At the end we know, that the kubit software is also an essential tool for all architects, surveyors, archaeologists and historical preservationists here in Poland. So we are very positive, that we are able to find a great community for kubit in Poland as well.

Additional information about the kubit software portfolio can be found at: www.kubit-polska.com.
